This is a signed limited edition set of two serigraphs by Washington artist Steve Strickalnd. Each 25x19 piece is in a glass frame. The work is titled Mt. Carmel Diptych and is No. 57 of 450. These serigraphs were purchased in the 1980s and come with a Certificate of Authenticity from the art dealer. More on the artist: Steve Strickland was born and raised in the Northwest and his art reflects the beautiful landscapes and natural charm that the region offers. His talents were recognized at a young age and he received a national scholastic art competition award for watercolor while still in high school. His early disciplines were divided between photography and art which led to his study under accomplished artist, Byron Navillier. With Navillier, Strickland began to interlock designs and develop his skill with pictorial organizations. Strickland's life took a different turn in 1967, when he entered the U.S. Navy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a member of an airwing aboard the aircraft carriers U.S.S. Ranger and U.S.S. America. In 1972 he returned to total concentration on his art, studying graphics and design at Edmonds Community College in Washington state. He and Max Hayslette, an accomplished artist, joined together in 1973 to form Olympus Graphics on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Together they pioneered an innovating new style of art combining the use of textures, painting and photography...a unique way to unite technology with tradition, thereby creating a new artistic point of view. At a major turn in his life, Strickland found a newly expanded freedom of expression in his art. Silence, harmony and grace were now strong themes in his art. He used textured papers and incorporated foils to add depth to his abstracts. The layering of colors, shapes and textures give his art appeal in both residential and design markets. These innovations give Strickland's art an illuminating quality that elevates any space to an experience of intricate beauty. Strickland's distinct style uses collage, mixed media and embossing. He uses unique paper with elaborate embossing around the image and coordinates it by working the embossing into the piece. He is fascinated by the interplay of different forms, colors and shapes and uses these to play off of one another. His strong personality and dedication to his craft are evident in the meticulous design and multidimensional form of his artwork.
